Category + SubCategory

It’s great that the Category Dropdown is now a multi-level. However, this seems to be counterintuitive on a reporting standpoint if I just want to see the stats of the Parent Category vs listing out all the subcategories.

Can anyone suggest a workaround on this?

What I might do is create a custom field called ParenCategory. I will then create a Monitor to:
When a ticket is closed
and the Category selected is Monitors & Accessories
Change “ParentCategory” to Hardware


  1. Is there a better way of doing this?
  2. Am I able to change a custom field using Monitors? I currently dont have the custom field so I’m not sure if it will show up in “Actions” within Monitors.

custom fields would be an enhancement. so when you do an advanced search it only pulls what you want. we could look at doing a select all when selecting the root.
